| |  | IOWA: Iowa brings back one of the best frontcourt players in the conference in PF Aaron White (12.8 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 1.8 APG). He is similar to Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky, as he is able to make plays from all over the court. He is very physical on the block with his 6-foot-9, 220-pound frame, overpowering his opponents for easy baskets. SF Jarrod Uthoff (7.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG) is another inside player who can step out and hit the perimeter shot (42% threes). This is a team that has the frontcourt depth to match any team in the Big Ten, as guys like 7-foot-1 C Adam Woodbury (5.7 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 52% FG) and 6-foot-10 C Gabriel Olaseni (6.5 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 1.3 BPG) are two huge players that can take up minutes and help dominate the glass. The key will be the performance of the backcourt, as SG Anthony Clemmons (2.4 PPG, 1.7 APG, 1.3 RPG) must emerge as a leader on the team. | | PURDUE: For Purdue, everything will begin with the play of C A.J. Hammons (10.8 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 3.1 BPG). He is one of the best defensive players in college basketball, making it very difficult for opponents to score in the lane against the Boilermakers. Last season, he improved on both his shooting from the field (51% FG) and foul line (70% FT), and has shown signs in the offseason of emerging as a legitimate all-conference player. SG Kendall Stephens (8.0 PPG, 1.8 RPG, 37% threes) had a solid freshman campaign, and will be asked to take on more of a scoring role this season. He will need to continue to work on finishing at the rim, as he shot a worse percentage from the field (36% FG) than he did from deep (37% threes). Purdue has the ability to be one of the better defensive teams in the conference, but will have to find more scoring from role players. |

Iowa (13-6) at Purdue (11-8), 12:00 p.m. EDT
Now in his fifth season at Iowa, Fran McCaffery has taken a dysfunctional program and returned it to Big Ten relevance.
Among the things the coach has yet to accomplish in the league is a win at Purdue, which the 25th-ranked Hawkeyes will try for Saturday against a Boilermakers team seemingly incapable of beating ranked teams.
Iowa (13-6, 4-2) won last season's only meeting 83-76 in Iowa City on March 2 and has won consecutive games in the series, but Purdue has won six straight over the Hawkeyes in West Lafayette.
The last three have come under McCaffery, who has won in eight of the 11 conference opponents' buildings - excluding this season's additions of Maryland and Rutgers, which he's yet to visit. He's also still seeking wins at Michigan and Michigan State.
Having checked Wisconsin off that list probably didn't make Tuesday's 82-50 loss in Madison any easier to stomach. It was McCaffery's second-worst loss at the school, trailing only a 95-61 defeat at Michigan State in 2011-12. It was Iowa's first loss in four true road games this season after winning at then-No. 12 North Carolina, then-No. 20 Ohio State and Minnesota.
"I was disappointed in our execution when we got behind ... and that happens a lot on the road," McCaffery said. "We started quick-shooting the ball."
The Hawkeyes were dominated on the glass, surrendering a 37-23 advantage with Wisconsin combining 15 offensive rebounds and a 49.2-percent shooting mark. Wisconsin has a plus-3.9 rebounding differential in Big Ten play, but Purdue has been even better at plus-5.2. Iowa's is even.
It was the third time in four games the Hawkeyes allowed at least 75 points, and plenty of that damage has been sustained from beyond the arc with opponents shooting 45.1 percent over the 2-2 stretch.
"It's not one thing or one area where we broke down - it was a combination of things," McCaffery said.
The only Iowa player to reach double figures was Jarrod Uthoff with 12 points. The rest of the starting lineup combined for a 6-of-19 mark.
Top scorer Aaron White (15.6 points per game) was limited to seven points after averaging 17.8 in his previous six games. In the consecutive wins over Purdue, he's averaged 16.5, though his career shooting percentage of 36.8 in five games in the series is 14.7 percent under his career mark.
The Boilermakers (11-8, 3-3) have dropped their last 13 games against the Top 25 and three of four overall after Wednesday's 66-57 loss at Illinois.
Purdue seems unlikely to pose the kind of long-range threat that has plagued Iowa lately. Illinois sat back as the Boilermakers, who average the conference's second-fewest 3-point attempts (17.4), went 5 of 21. They've shot 29.8 percent from outside in the last five games and 28.1 percent in the consecutive losses to Iowa.
"Sometimes we passed the ball around on offense and they just left us wide open," coach Matt Painter said. "We just didn't step up and knock them down."
Top scorer Kendall Stephens (10.9 points per game) was limited to 12 minutes and held scoreless after aggravating a previously broken finger. Stephens, a 42.1 percent 3-point shooter, has accounted for 48 of the team's 110 3s made, and his status has yet to be determined.
Fellow guards Jon Octeus and Rapheal Davis each scored 14 points. Octeus, a graduate transfer from Colorado State, has reached double figures in eight straight games, averaging 12.4 points on 59.0 percent shooting. He had been limited to 6.6 points and 46.4 percent through 11 games.
