| | | NAVY: The Midshipmen began 1-3 last year, but then won seven of eight games to become bowl eligible. The triple-option propelled them to 278 rushing YPG (6th in FBS), but QB Keenan Reynolds (61-of-108, 898 yds, 9 TD, 2 INT; 649 rush yds, 10 TD) throws well enough to work out of the shotgun in some spread formations this year. He should have plenty of protection from his line, and top WR Brandon Turner (321 rec. yds, 4 TD) is dependable. RBs Noah Copeland (738 rush yds, 5 TD) and Chris Swain (154 rush yds, 10.3 YPC) are the two main ball carriers for this offense. The defense provided little pressure in opposing backfields (18 sacks, T-100th in FBS), 54 TFL (T-17th-worst in FBS). But a strong veteran presence remains in this 3-4 defense with ILB Cody Peterson (67 tackles), OLB Jordan Drake (49 tackles, 2 sacks), CB Parrish Gaines (69 tackles, 2 INT) and FS Chris Ferguson (37 tackles). | | W KENTUCKY: After dropping four of its final five games, WKU decided to take a chance with Bobby Petrino. He will often feed RB Antonio Andrews (1,728 rush yds, 11 TD; 432 rec. yds, 3 TD) who led the nation with 3,161 all-purpose yards. QB Brandon Doughty (14-of-25, 113 yds, 1 INT career) will also get the ball in the hands of WRs Willie McNeal (556 rec. yds, 6 TD) and Austin Aikens (27.1 YPC). New DC Nick Holt loves to attack from his 4-3 scheme, and is loving SS Kiante Young (83 tackles, 7 PD) and FS Jonathan Dowling (68 tackles, 6 INT). LBs Andrew Jackson (122 tackles, 4 FF, 16.5 TFL) and Xavius Boyd (79 tackles) will try to compensate for a green D-Line with four new starters. |
