KEY GAME INFORMATION
BOWLING GREEN: The Falcons will play fast and furious under new head man Dino Babers, which suits QB Matt Johnson (3,467 pass yds, 25 TD, 7 INT; 5 rush TD) just fine. Same goes for star RB Travis Greene (1,594 rush yds, 5.7 YPC, 11 TD), who will continue to get in excess of 20 touches per game. The receiving corps is deep, led by WR Ronnie Moore (547 rec yds, 7 TD). The tough BGSU defense (15.9 PPG, 5th in FBS) returns only FS Ryland Ward (81 tackles, 2 INT, 2 FR) to the secondary. The front seven has plenty of experience though, led by OLB D.J. Lynch (85 tackles) and DT Taylor Royster (3.5 sacks).
WISCONSIN: The Badgers have many new faces, but returning RB Melvin Gordon (1,609 rush yds, 7.8 YPC, 12 TD) could be the FBS top rusher. His running behind a fierce O-Line will take pressure off QB Joel Stave (7.4 YPA, 22 TD, 13 INT) or dual-threat QB Tanner McEvoy. Whoever wins the job will not have an experienced receiver to target. All front-seven starters are gone, including All- American LB Chris Borland, whose spot will be filled by LB Derek Landisch (33 tackles). Freshman DE Alec James is the team's best pass rusher. The secondary returns three starters, the best being CB Sojourn Shelton (4 INT).

*Bowling Green-Wisconsin Preview* =================================

Bowling Green (2-1) at No. 19 Wisconsin (1-1), 12:00 p.m. EDT

(AP) - Wisconsin quarterback Tanner McEvoy doled out some good-natured trash talk after outrushing teammate Melvin Gordon.

For once, Gordon wasn't the top runner for the 19th-ranked Badgers.

After a bye week, Wisconsin is rested and ready to get its star tailback going again Saturday against visiting Bowling Green, which is looking for a second straight win over a Big Ten team.

"That's tough dealing with the jokes Tanner hit me with but, it's all love," Gordon said Monday. "It's a competition, obviously, but I'll be better against Bowling Green."

McEvoy bested Gordon in the running game with 55 yards on nine carries in the Badgers' 37-3 win against Western Illinois on Sept. 6. Gordon rushed for just 38 yards on 17 carries as the Leathernecks found success by stacking the box.

Gordon did have an 8-yard touchdown catch against Western Illinois, a lower-division school. Otherwise, it's been a rough start to the season for Gordon, one of the nation's best rushers who collected 1,609 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground as a sophomore in 2013 for Wisconsin (1-1).

Gordon had 16 carries for 140 yards against LSU, but suffered a hip flexor injury and didn't play the majority of the second half in the Badgers' season-opening 28-24 loss. He said he's recovered from the injury and wasn't hampered by the hip against Western Illinois or practice during Wisconsin's bye week.

Gordon has acknowledged frustration at times this season with his game, but Badgers coach Gary Andersen said he doesn't sense Gordon's urgency with expectations. Andersen remains optimistic Gordon will bounce back against Bowling Green (2-1).

"The big thing with Melvin, I'm on guard with that with any player when they may be in a position to have expectations that they put on themselves or that they think have been put on them," Andersen said.

"I see zero signs of that and when I talk to Melvin about it he says 'Coach, I'm ready to go. I'm good and ready to go.' And I believe him when he says that to me," Andersen added. "I honestly believe he's saying 'Coach, I'm going to have my opportunity to get mine."'

Although the Badgers have won 30 straight non-conference home games - the nation's second-longest active streak - and are 29-2 all-time against Mid-American Conference teams, they won't take Bowling Green lightly after it defeated Indiana 45-42 last Saturday.

James Knapke threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Roger Lewis with 9 seconds to play to give the Falcons their first win over a Big Ten school since beating Minnesota in overtime to open the 2007 season.

Bowling Green opened this season with a 59-31 loss at Western Kentucky before amassing 526 yards in a 48-7 win over Virginia Military Institute on Sept. 6. The Falcons racked up 571 yards against the Hoosiers, as Knapke, a sophomore making his second career start, set school records for attempts (73) and completions (46) as he threw for 395 yards and three touchdowns.

"I think the players and the team had some juice stolen from them early in the season. And we got a little bit of that back," coach Dino Babers said.

The Falcons were vulnerable against the run, however, letting Indiana gain 235 yards on 37 attempts.

The Badgers, who ranked eighth in the FBS with 283.8 rushing yards per game in 2013, ran for 187 on 39 carries against Western Illinois. Besides stacking the box, Western also ran successful zone schemes, while Wisconsin offensive linemen were ineffective with their combination blocking.

Andersen said the Badgers spent time in practice during the bye week working on the running game.

"Do we expect to run the ball better this week than we did in week two? Yes, we do. And I'm sure Bowling Green is going to load up the box and challenge us to run the ball effectively," Andersen said.

Gordon provided a blunt assessment when asked to grade his performance through two games, giving himself a "D." He said he's managing expectations the best he can.

"It's tough when everyone across the country is expecting you to break a long one probably every game, and if you don't, it's like 'Maybe, he's not what we thought he was,"' Gordon said. "But you've got to ignore it the best you can, try to move forward and put your best foot forward in the next game."

The Badgers haven't played Bowling Green since a 35-14 win at Cleveland in 2006 to improve to 3-0 in the all-time series.
