KEY GAME INFORMATION
COLORADO ST: The 4-8 Rams' four wins came versus teams with a combined 10-40 record, and the eight losses (including FCS North Dakota St.) each came by at least 12 points. QB Garrett Grayson (6.9 YPA, 7 TD, 3 INT) has the edge to start over QB Conner Smith (8.1 YPA, 6 TD, 6 INT). The subpar offense (21.2 PPG, T-102nd in FBS) has just one proven wideout, WR Charles Lovett (428 rec. yds). RB Donnell Alexander (587 rush yds, 4 TD) should help improve the No. 97 rushing offense (129 YPG) behind an O-Line returning all five starters. The D-Line needs help after 4.3 TFL per game (T-10th-worst in FBS). But LBs Shaquil Barrett (67 tackles, 3.5 sacks) and Cory James (54 tackles, 7.5 sacks) are excellent, and the pass defense (203 YPG, 26th in FBS) is strong with CB Shaq Bell (66 tackles, 7 PD) and S Trent Matthews (71 tackles, 10 PD).
TULSA: Tulsa certainly has the offense (34.7 PPG, 30th in FBS) to defend its C-USA title, with a ground game that gained 246 YPG (9th in FBS). RBs Trey Watts (1,108 rush yds, 343 rec. yds) and Ja'Terian Douglas (936 rush yds, 7 TD) should produce more in a weaker conference. QB Cody Green (2,592 pass yds, 17 TD, 11 INT) was limited by a shoulder injury last year, and has all the pieces in place to succeed with WRs Keyarris Garrett (845 rec. yds, 9 TD) and Jordan James (568 rec. yds), and a burly O-Line that allowed just nine sacks all season. The defense ranked among the nation's top-3 teams in sacks (53) and TFL (110), but the starting D-Line all left. The secondary is also shaky, but senior S Marco Nelson (8 INT career) is a rock. Senior LB Shawn Jackson (88 tackles, 10.5 TFL) is the heart and soul of this unit.
