| USC: Too many times last season, the defense faltered late in games. The Trojans lost some key pieces'most notably DL Leonard Williams, who was arguably the best run-stuffing lineman in the nation last season'but the hope is that a new defensive coordinator can tighten things up, because the offense is going to move the ball. Trips to Tempe and Eugene are what could keep USC from the Pac-12 title game. | | STANFORD: The Cardinal figure to be rock-solid on offense, it's just a matter of how quickly all of the new faces on defense will come together'there are holes to fill as six of their front seven are gone, including stars DE Henry Anderson and ILB A.J. Tarpley. They'll be tested early with a Sept. 19 trip to Los Angeles to face USC. They'll host Oregon this year, and with Marcus Mariota gone the Ducks figure to slide back a bit. The Cardinal should be right there as the top challenger. |
