KEY GAME INFORMATION
MARSHALL: The biggest question mark for the Thundering Herd is at the quarterback position, where Alex Thomson comes over as a transfer from FCS Wagner. He'll be helped along by receiver Tyre Brady, an All-C-USA first-team selection last season. Plus, Marshall will have a group of solid running backs working behind an experienced O-line. Defensively, the Herd have a great front seven. But the unit, as a whole, will need to quickly find a way to jell under new defensive coordinator Adam Fuller.
S CAROLINA: The Gamecocks have been lapped by Clemson in the Palmetto State, but coach Will Muschamp has kept his team in the East conversation, and this year will be no different. On defense, South Carolina has all-conference talent'specifically defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw and linebacker T.J. Brunson'but lacks depth. The team's bona fide star on offense, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, returns from an injury-marred 2017 and can fluster defenses, giving QB Jake Bentley more options to exploit from the pocket. With eight offensive starters returning this season, South Carolina should continue to improve in a division that is making strides across the board.
