KEY GAME INFORMATION
ARIZONA: Rich Rodriguez will have his third quarterback in three years since coming to Arizona: USC transfer Jesse Scroggins or redshirt freshman Anu Solomon. The team will get top WR Austin Hill (1,364 rec yds, 11 TD in 2012) back after he missed all of 2013 with a knee injury, but must replace All-American RB Ka'Deem Carey. Each of the top competitors for that job'RBs Zach Green, Nick Wilson and Jonathan Haden'has yet to log a carry. They'll get help from a veteran O-Line that features three-year starting OTs Mickey Baucus and Fabbians Ebbele. After improving to 24.2 PPG allowed (35.3 PPG in 2012), the defense could take a step back. They have little on the defensive line and will be led by sophomore LB Scooby Wright (83 tackles, 9 TFL). The secondary is solid, with veteran starters CB Jonathan McKnight (8 PD), S Jared Tevis (83 tackles, 3 FF) and hybrid Tra'Mayne Bondurant (4 INT).
OREGON: After a knee injury derailed his Heisman candidacy, QB Marcus Mariota (3,665 pass yds, 31 TD, 4 INT; 715 rush yds, 9 TD) should contend for the trophy. The O-Line returns intact, and the backfield is stacked with talent at tailback. RB Byron Marshall (1,038 rush yds, 14 TD) is the team's leading rusher, but sophomore RB Thomas Tyner (711 rush yds, 9 TD) is a potential superstar. The one weakness this unit has is at receiver, where Bralon Addison's spring knee injury means they've lost their top four receivers from last year. New defensive coordinator Don Pellum has made it a point to get stronger. Oregon has one of the nation's best defensive backs in CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (84 tackles, 3 INT) and returns both starting ILBs Derrick Malone (105 tackles) and Rodney Hardrick (64 tackles). The more physical approach could be key in avoiding a third straight loss to Stanford.

*Arizona-Oregon Preview* ========================

By JORDAN GARRETSON STATS Writer

Arizona (4-0) at No. 10 Oregon (4-0), 10:30 p.m. EDT

Oregon breezed through its non-conference schedule with relative ease before opening Pac-12 play with more resistance. The Ducks would prefer some breathing room versus Arizona after being upset by the Wildcats last season.

Second-ranked Oregon returns from a bye week looking to better protect Marcus Mariota and shore up its defense Thursday night against the Wildcats.

This matchup in Eugene includes two of the only three remaining unbeaten teams in the Pac-12 - UCLA is the other. The Ducks were 9-1 going into last year's meeting in Arizona, which entered with a 3-4 conference record, but the Wildcats pulled off a stunning 42-16 victory Nov. 23 to ruin Oregon's chances at a fifth straight BCS bowl appearance.

"Some people use it as a motivating factor," Mariota said of last year's outcome. "For us it's just another game."

Mariota had two interceptions that day - one of only three times in 30 starts he's had more than one - but he's yet to be picked off this season.

The Ducks (4-0, 1-0) have been off since a 38-31 victory at Washington State on Sept. 20 after winning three non-conference contests by an average of 34.0 points.

"It gives you confidence that when things are going a little tough, that you can battle through those things and fight through those situations," said Mariota, who was 21 of 25 for 329 yards and five touchdowns.

Mariota is among the early frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy, leading the country with a 218.0 passer rating while ranking second with 11.82 yards per attempt. However, he was sacked a career-high seven times versus Washington State, so keeping him upright was surely a focal point during the bye even with coach Mark Helfrich saying the team was in "improvement mode in every phase."

Injuries have Oregon currently without two starters on its offensive line in Jake Fisher and Andre Yruretagoyena. Tyrell Crosby and Matt Pierson filled in at left and right tackle, respectively, against the Cougars.

"It wasn't always the new guys," Helfrich said. "That's just a matter of maybe a little bit of human nature: Sometimes if a guy's missing at a certain position guys try to overcompensate and do too much. And that's the worst thing because now you weaken two positions instead of just one."

The Ducks also need to improve on defense, where they rank 10th in the conference after surrendering 443.5 yards per game. They've been particularly weak against the pass, allowing an average of 315.2 yards - including 436 to Washington State.

"We just need to start controlling the pass game better, and start really sticking on these routes - not letting them get these easy throws," safety Reggie Daniels told the school's official website. "The teams we're playing now have some of the same schemes \2013 they like to get the ball out quick, do a lot of pass routes."

The Wildcats (4-0, 1-0) also come off a bye week after a dramatic 49-45 comeback victory over California on Sept. 20. They trailed 28-6 at halftime before racking up 420 yards of offense over the final 30 minutes, winning on Anu Solomon's 47-yard Hail Mary to Austin Hill for a touchdown on the final play.

The win put Arizona in position to move to 5-0 for the first time since 1998 when it finished 12-1.

"I think this game showed that no matter how far behind we are, we have the maturity to pick ourselves up and learn from mistakes during the game so we can make big plays and come back to get the win," Hill told the school's official website.

Though Oregon has assembled yet another juggernaut attack with 555.2 yards of offense per game, the Wildcats have been even more prolific at 593.8 - sixth-best in the country.

Solomon, the school's first freshman starting quarterback since 2005, finished with a school-record 520 passing yards against Cal and ranks fifth in the FBS with 363.5 per game.

The Wildcats have also gone primarily with a freshman at running back in Nick Wilson. Wilson ran for 449 yards in his first three contests before Cal limited him to 33 on 11 carries.

Current Chicago Bears rookie Ka'Deem Carey had 206 rushing yards last year versus the Ducks as Arizona finished with 304 - the most Oregon has allowed since 2007.

The Ducks, 28-0 at home against unranked opponents since losing to Boise State on Sept. 20, 2008, won 49-0 in the teams' last matchup in Eugene in 2012.
