| TEXAS ST: Dennis Franchione will go up-tempo on offense with sophomore dual threat QB Tyler Jones (7.1 YPA, 8 TD, 5 INT) taking over. He'll get plenty of help from RB Robert Lowe (945 rush yds, 5.8 YPC, 9 TD). LB David Mayo (89 tackles) leads the defense. The secondary and pass rush could be lacking though. | | ILLINOIS: The Illini won only one Big Ten game last season and allowed 40.8 PPG to their conference foes, but things could get better in a hurry with Oklahoma State transfer QB Wes Lunt (8.5 YPA, 6 TD, 7 INT in 2012) running the offense this season. The strong-armed Lunt should get plenty of protection with an O-Line that returns four starters, but his receiving corps is weak, with WR Martize Barr (246 rec yds) as the top option. The ground game is in good shape though, with versatile RB Josh Ferguson (5.5 YPC, 50 rec, 1,314 total yards, 11 TD). The defense returns nearly everybody, but lost 33% of its paltry 15-sack total in Jonathan Brown. LB Mason Monheim (97 tackles) and converted safety OLB Earnest Thomas (101 tackles, 7 PD) are the keys to the defense along with CBs V'Angelo Bentley (4 TFL) and Eaton Spence (4 PD). |
