| | | VILLANOVA: The second-seeded Wildcats lost to UConn in the Round of 32 in last year's NCAA Tournament, but again have a chance to be a high seed in March with nearly all their players returning. Senior SG Darrun Hilliard (14.3 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 2.6 APG) and senior PF JayVaughn Pinkston (14.1 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.4 APG) are two very experienced players who have appeared in many big games in their careers. Hilliard showed the ability to hit from the outside (41% threes), helping open up space for Pinkston (52% FG) to attack the basket. PG Ryan Arcidiacono (9.9 PPG, 3.5 APG, 2.4 RPG) is the floor general on the team, and he does a terrific job of getting the Wildcats the ball in the best situation to score. He turns the ball over only 1.4 times per game, which is huge for a Villanova team that can score in bunches. Bigger things are also expected out of swingman Josh Hart (7.8 PPG, 4.4 RPG) and SG Dylan Ennis (5.1 PPG). |

*Creighton-Villanova Preview* =============================
By JORDAN GARRETSON STATS Writer
Creighton (9-11) at Villanova (17-2), 7:00 p.m. EDT
Villanova lost its hold of first place in the Big East after an uncharacteristic performance.
Hosting the only winless team in conference play should help them bounce back, though Creighton seems to be on the edge of breaking through.
The fourth-ranked Wildcats look to get back on track Sunday night against the Bluejays, who are one loss shy of matching the longest skid in program history.
Villanova (17-2, 4-2) is looking to avoid a second straight defeat after Monday's 78-58 loss at Georgetown. The Wildcats shot 34.1 percent and committed 17 turnovers after previously averaging 10.8.
"Losing was not a surprise," coach Jay Wright said. "The way we played was a surprise."
It may have been a hangover from an underwhelming showing in their previous game, a 62-47 win at Penn in which they shot 41.8 percent. Leading scorer Darrun Hilliard II, who had nine points against Georgetown, is 7 for 25 over his last three games after previously shooting 45.9 percent.
Villanova was outscored 42-20 in the first half and was outrebounded for the second straight game after claiming the advantage on the boards 13 times in its previous 17 contests.
"They just came out and played harder than us," said Ryan Arcidiacono, who scored a team-high 16 points. "They were more aggressive."
The Wildcats have won their 11 home games by an average of 19.0 points and 28 of their last 29 at home against unranked opponents. They had won all three previous meetings with Creighton before the Jays swept last season's series, knocking off Villanova twice by a combined 49 points while shooting 60.4 percent. The Wildcats entered both meetings ranked in the top 10.
Creighton (9-11, 0-7) is 1-6 on the road and the conference's only sub-.500 team. The Jays' eight-game skid trails only a nine-game slide in 1995 as the longest single-season losing streak in program history. Four of the losses on their current slide have come by four points or fewer, however.
"I think we learned from that (Georgetown loss) and now we have to prepare for a very well-coached Creighton team that has been a play or two away in its Big East games, has a great win over Oklahoma, and took it to us twice last year," Wright told the team's official website.
The Jays lost 64-61 at Butler on Wednesday despite holding the Bulldogs to 33.8 percent shooting, but committed 19 turnovers compared to Butler's nine.
Second-leading scorer Isaiah Zierden (9.5 ppg) tore his right MCL, ending his season, which likely puts more pressure on top scorer Austin Chatman to snap out of his slump. Chatman has averaged 5.9 points on 25.4 percent shooting during the losing streak after previously averaging 14.3 points on 42.3 percent shooting.
While Chatman has struggled, senior guard Rick Kreklow has elevated his play, averaging 12.8 points and going 9 of 17 from deep over his last four games.
Arcidiacono appears to be heating up for Villanova, shooting 54.5 percent over his last four games - including a 13-of-23 mark from beyond the arc - while scoring 14-plus three times. He was 4 of 13 from the field in last season's series.
Creighton lets opponents shoot a Big East-high 37.3 percent from 3-point range.
