| USC: Last season: 21-13, Lost to Providence in first round of NCAA Tournament.
Nickname: Trojans.
Coach: Andy Enfield.
Conference: Pac-12.
Who's gone: F Darion Clark (transfer), G Julian Jacobs, F Nikola Jovanovic, G Katin Reinhardt (transfer), F Malik Martin (transfer), F Malik Marquetti (transfer).
Who's back: G Jordan McLaughlin. Junior who averaged a team-leading 13.4 minutes playing 32.4 minutes a game last season while sharing point guard duties. With Jacobs leaving school early only to go undrafted, McLaughlin will have to assume the responsibility of running the offense. He's healthy after enduring shoulder problems the last two years. F Bennie Boatwright. With Jovanovic also leaving early and not drafted, Boatwright will play even bigger minutes. He is long, athletic and can shoot from the perimeter. F Chimezie Metu. The 6-foot-11 sophomore has added 15 pounds and will join Boatwright in getting most of the frontcourt minutes. G Elijah Stewart. He shot 42 percent from 3-point range last season.
Who's new: G Shaqquan Aaron. Figures to start after transferring from Louisville and sitting out last season. F Charles Buggs. A graduate transfer who averaged 5.9 points last season at Minnesota. He can play right away. F Harrison Henderson. A 6-10 freshman from Dallas who needs development. G Kurt Karis. A 6-1 junior transfer from Chicago State. G Jonah Mathews. Younger brother of Gonzaga guard Jordan Mathews who can score. G De'Anthony Melton. Freshman who can rebound and defend. F Nick Rakocevic. A 6-10 freshman from Chicago who can run and rebound.
The Skinny: The Trojans lost their second- and third-leading scorers in Jovanovic and Jacobs and had four other players transfer. Three of their four freshmen could play big minutes off the bench. The athleticism on the roster should allow the team to stay close to its average of 80.5 points last season. USC will try to get back to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time since 2011. |
