KEY GAME INFORMATION
TEXAS TECH: The Red Raiders will look to their backcourt to get them back to the postseason for the first time since an NIT berth in 2010. Texas Tech was competitive in many games last season, as they defeated Baylor and Oklahoma State, while losing in the final minutes to Iowa State and Kansas. PG Robert Turner (9.3 PPG, 2.6 APG and 2.6 RPG) and SG Toddrick Gotcher (7.3 PPG, 2.9 RPG and 1.9 APG) are the only two starters back on the team, and they will be looked upon to take on the biggest chunks of the scoring load. But both players shot just 40% FG last season, and Tubby Smith will need to find somebody to rely on in a thin frontcourt.
OKLAHOMA: The Sooners have one of the budding stars in the conference in SG Buddy Hield (16.5 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 39% threes). The 6-foot-4 Hield is capable of scoring from anywhere on the court, and he becomes nearly impossible to guard when he is hitting perimeter shot. With Cameron Clark graduating, Hield will become the unquestioned No. 1 scoring option on the team. SG Isaiah Cousins (11.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 40% threes) will also be looked upon more as a scorer, and he proved last season he is ready for the opportunity. PF Ryan Spangler (9.6 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 58% FG) is the leading returning rebounder in the conference, which is huge for an undersized Sooners team. The team ranked seventh in the nation in scoring last season, but to take the next step in the Big 12, the Sooners are going to have to make some more stops on the defensive end, as they allowed 76.0 PPG (last in Big 12) last season.

*Texas Tech-Oklahoma Preview* =============================

By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer

Texas Tech (11-9) at Oklahoma (12-7), 7:30 p.m. EDT

After struggling through a string of games against fellow Top 25 teams, Oklahoma might not catch a break Wednesday night despite hosting the Big 12's last-place team.

Hoping to avoid their first three-game, regular-season losing streak in nearly three years, the No. 24 Sooners face a Texas Tech squad trying to snap an eight-game road slide - dating back to its last trip to Norman - by knocking off a second consecutive ranked foe.

Oklahoma (12-7, 3-4) has lost four of five, including three defeats in the last four while facing all ranked opponents. Those three losses were all on the road, with one coming by 11 points and another by 21.

"We've just got to find ways to grind and keep grinding," said guard Buddy Hield, who averages a league-leading 17.8 points but was held to 12 while going 0 of 7 from 3-point range in Saturday's 69-58 loss at then-No. 21 Baylor.

"We'll get our fight back. We've got to get everybody going more and we'll start clicking again."

Among those players Oklahoma hopes to get going is TaShawn Thomas, averaging 7.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in the last four Big 12 games after averaging 16.7 and 10.0 in the first three. Isaiah Cousins, averaging 12.5 points and 5.6 rebounds, hopes to play after a wrist injury limited him to 18 minutes Saturday.

The Sooners should feel confident returning home where they shot 55.8 percent during their only victory over the last five contests, 82-65 over then-No. 24 Oklahoma State on Jan. 17. However, they averaged 66.0 points and shot 40.2 percent in their four most recent losses, including one in overtime to Kansas State on Jan. 10 for their lone home defeat.

"We need to realize how important each possession is and finish opportunities when we get 'em," coach Lon Kruger said. "We've just got to keep working ahead, keep getting better."

Oklahoma hasn't lost three straight regular-season games since a six-game skid in February 2012.

Before the loss to Kansas State earlier this month, the Sooners hadn't dropped a home game since losing to an unranked Texas Tech team 68-60 on Feb. 12. Hield was held to a season-low three points on 1-of-13 shooting.

That's one of only two wins in the last 24 true road games for the Red Raiders (11-9, 1-6), who have shot 36.7 percent during their eight-game skid on the road - 32.6 in four this season.

Though Texas Tech hasn't won on the road since that victory in Norman, it snapped a six-game league slide with a stunning 78-73 win over then-No. 9 Iowa State on Saturday.

After shooting 26.6 percent from beyond the arc in the previous four games, the Red Raiders went 11 of 24 against the Cyclones. They held Iowa State, shooting a Big-12 best 48.7 percent from the field, to 42.9 percent.

"We're getting the right type of effort," coach Tubby Smith said. "(That victory can) liven their spirit and get guys believing they're better (than the record). We just try to keep them believing."

Devaugntah Williams is the only Red Raider averaging in double figures at 11.0 points, and he had a season-high 22 on Saturday. He shot 8 of 33 while totaling 22 points in the previous four contests.

Looking for consecutive wins over Top 25 teams for the first time since 2007-08, Texas Tech has dropped 24 straight road games against ranked opponents.
