| | | GONZAGA: Mark Few has built a program that has produced consistent excellence, and the Zags once again have a team that could make some noise in March. PG Kevin Pangos (14.4 PPG, 3.6 APG, 41% threes) and SG Gary Bell Jr. (11.0 PPG, 2.9 RPG and 43% threes) are one of the most experienced backcourts in the country, as the two have 187 career starts between them. Pangos is a savvy point guard who is always under control, especially when running the pick-and-roll. Bell Jr. is great at spotting up in the corner, usually when Pangos is coming off the pick. Seven-foot-1 C Przemek Karnowski (10.4 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 1.7 BPG) is the typical Gonzaga big man, a highly skilled post player that can step out and hit the open jump shot. PF Kyle Wiltjer (A Kentucky transfer) is another terrific spot-up shooter, who should fit in perfectly to what Gonzaga likes to do on offense. |

*San Diego-Gonzaga Preview* ===========================
By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer
San Diego (14-14) at Gonzaga (28-1), 11:00 p.m. EDT
Having already secured a third straight West Coast Conference regular-season title, Gonzaga can shift its focus toward rolling to a potential No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Looking to extend their school-record winning streak to 22 games, the third-ranked Bulldogs face the last team to beat them in conference play as they host San Diego on Thursday night.
Down by as many as 17 points at Saint Mary's on Saturday, Gonzaga (28-1, 16-0) closed on a 29-9 run to win 70-60 and clinch its third straight regular-season league title while setting the school mark for consecutive victories.
"Those are kind of like the games in the NCAA tournament," said center Przemek Karnowski, who had 14 points and seven rebounds. "You get down and you have one chance to get back."
Though the Bulldogs are two wins away from a second undefeated conference run in three seasons, they've had to show their mettle while either trailing or tied at halftime in four of six February games. Their 11-point halftime hole Saturday was the largest such deficit of the season.
However, in those four contests, Gonzaga shot a combined 56.0 percent in the second half and won by no fewer than eight points.
The national leaders in field-goal shooting at 52.7 percent, the Bulldogs shot 12 of 24 after the break while holding the second-place Gaels to 8 of 28.
"It shows character, it shows toughness, it shows great teamness," said coach Mark Few, who has won 12 outright regular-season titles in 16 seasons at Gonzaga.
The Bulldogs hope to maintain those traits in the NCAA tournament as a possible No. 1 seed, which they earned for the first time in 2013.
"At the end of the day, the level of winning we're doing here year in, year out is tough to match," Few said. "For the second time in three years, we're at least in the discussion for a No. 1 seed."
Though the Bulldogs entered the week with the most victories in the nation and on the third-longest winning streak, as a member of a mid-major conference, a loss prior to Selection Sunday likely will cost them a top seed.
Riding the country's longest home winning streak at 40 games, the Bulldogs have no reason to take anything for granted this week against San Diego (14-14, 7-9) and BYU.
Gonzaga has won 21 straight against league opponents since a 69-66 loss at San Diego on Feb. 22 of last year. The Bulldogs have won 15 consecutive home meetings against the Toreros, including a hard-fought 59-56 victory last season.
San Diego, however, saw how much more talented these Bulldogs are during a 60-48 defeat Dec. 29. Gonzaga shot 51.9 percent to take a 15-point halftime lead before going 8 of 25 in the second but held the Toreros to a season-low 26.8 percent overall.
"They're a really good team. There's a lot of length and offensively they're really hard to guard, and that's going to put pressure on you that way," said guard Johnny Dee, who was the only San Diego player in double figures with 20 points.
Kyle Wiltjer paced Gonzaga with 15 points in that contest and is averaging a team-leading 17.4. The Kentucky transfer, 21 of 36 from 3-point range in his last seven games, followed a 45-point performance at Pacific by recording 16 and 12 boards against Saint Mary's.
Dee, third in the WCC with 17.8 points per game, scored 26 in last season's loss at Gonzaga.
