| CLEMSON: Last season: 17-14, lost in first round of ACC Tournament.
Nickname: Tigers.
Coach: Brad Brownell.
Conference: Atlantic Coast.
Who's gone: G Jordan Roper, C Landry Nnoko, F Josh Smith
Who's back: F Jaron Blossomgame. Senior forward who was a first-team all-ACC selection last year, led the Tigers in scoring (18.7 points) and rebounds (6.7); F Donte Grantham. Junior averaged 10.2 points a game; PG Avry Holmes. The senior transfer averaged 10 points and led the team in assists and steals.
Who's new: G Shelton Mitchell. The sophomore sat out last season after transferring from Vanderbilt. G Marcquise Reed. Another sophomore who sat out last season after coming from Robert Morris where he averaged 15 points and was the Northeast Conference's freshman of the year in 2014-15. F Elijah Thomas. A 6-foot-9 transfer from Texas A&M who will be eligible in December.
The Skinny: Clemson has not made the NCAA Tournament since Brownell's first season in 2011, despite having 10 ACC victories in 2014 and last season. The Tigers were 7-5 against non-ACC opponents and will look for a faster start this season. | | GEORGIA TECH: Last season: 21-15, lost in quarterfinals of the NIT
Nickname: Yellow Jackets
Coach: Josh Pastner
Conference: Atlantic Coast.
Who's gone: G Marcus Georges-Hunt, G Adam Smith, F Charles Mitchell, F Nick Jacobs.
Who's back: G Josh Heath. Senior started 21 games and averaged 2.79 assists; F Quinton Stephens. Senior who shot 32 percent from 3-point range; G Tadric Jackson. Junior made one start and scored in double-figures five times; C Ben Lammers. Junior who shot 65.5 percent in limited minutes and led team with 47 blocks.
Who's new: F Kellen McCormick. Graduate transfer shot 42 percent from 3-point range in three seasons at Western Michigan; G/F Jodan Price. Another graduate transfer who started 10 games the last two seasons at Eastern Michigan. F Sylvester Ogbonda. A 6-foot-10 native of Nigeria who redshirted last season.
The Skinny: Taking over after Brian Gregory was fired, Pastner faces a massive rebuilding job at Georgia Tech. He must replace four starters who combined to average 52.3 points and 21.2 rebounds per game as well as forward James White, the team's third-leading rebounder (4.4). The Yellow Jackets haven't been to the NCAA Tournament since 2010 and that doesn't figure to change this season. |
