KEY GAME INFORMATION
GEORGETOWN: John Thompson III had three double-digit scorers last season: Jason Clark, Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims, who are all gone. That makes for a younger Hoyas squad that if it succeeds, it will be led by 6-foot-8 sophomore Otto Porter (9.7 PPG, 6.8 RPG). But he didn't even start last year, with the two returning starters being G Markel Starks (7.1 PPG) and F Nate Lubick (3.5 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 2.0 APG). Throw in freshman SG D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and SF Stephen Domingo, this is a team filled with talent, but a dearth of experience.
CONNECTICUT: Hall of Famer Jim Calhoun is no longer roaming the sidelines for the Huskies, and his former point guard Kevin Ollie will take the reins with zero head coaching experience. It will take Ollie a while to rebuild this team that lost Jeremy Lamb and Andre Drummond to the NBA and Alex Oriakhi to transfer. Shabazz Napier (13.0 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 5.8 APG) will have to bear the brunt of the burden running this offense while Ryan Boatright (10.4 PPG, 4.0 APG, 38% 3-pt FG) will have to step up in his sophomore year. Omar Calhoun should be a valuable asset at guard in his freshman season, but it will still be difficult for this crew to compete in the conference.

*Georgetown-UConn Preview* ==========================

Georgetown (21-4) at Connecticut (19-7), 7:00 p.m. EDT

Otto Porter was spectacular in helping Georgetown take over sole possession of first place in the Big East.

He had to excel to outshine what Shabazz Napier did for Connecticut last week.

Porter will try to lead the seventh-ranked Hoyas to their 10th straight victory in Wednesday night's matchup with Napier and the Huskies at Gampel Pavilion.

Georgetown (21-4, 11-3) won 57-46 over then-No. 8 Syracuse on Saturday, snapping the Orange's 38-game home win streak - the longest in the nation. Porter had career highs of 33 points and five steals along with eight rebounds.

"It was special. That's the only way to categorize it," coach John Thompson III said. "You saw the show that I saw."

Georgetown is enjoying its longest run in Big East play since winning 11 in a row in 2006-07. The Hoyas lead the conference by one-half game over No. 22 Marquette, with No. 10 Louisville one game back.

Porter scored 16 of Georgetown's 21 first-half points. He fared even better in the second half and finished with a career-high five 3-pointers as he made 12 of 19 shots overall, with the rest of the Hoyas shooting 20.0 percent.

"Our guards really just made it possible for me to get open, get open shots on the overload on the 3-point line," said Porter, named Big East player of the week.

Napier was also quick to credit his teammates after averaging 27.5 points and 55.6 percent shooting in two victories last week. He scored 17 of his 28 after halftime in an 81-69 win at DePaul on Saturday.

"I tried to be a little more aggressive and I was fortunate to make a couple of shots," Napier said. "I'm thankful that my teammates have so much confidence in me. They continue to keep pushing me and pushing me, and I'm thankful for that."

Georgetown has lost six of its last seven road games against Connecticut (19-7, 9-5) and has fallen by an average of 22.0 points in losing all three previous meetings at Gampel Pavilion.

The Huskies, though, figure to see a different Porter than the player who scored four points in 33 minutes against them in last season's lone meeting, a 58-44 home win for the Hoyas last Feb. 1.

Napier had one point, four fouls and missed all nine shots from the field in 31 minutes of that contest, while Ryan Boatright failed to score and missed all four shots in 19 minutes.

Boatright and freshman Omar Calhoun each chipped in 17 points against the Blue Demons as the Huskies shot 60.0 percent - their best effort in Big East play.

Duplicating those performance could be a challenge Wednesday. The Hoyas are second in the Big East in scoring defense at 55.7 points per game and field-goal percentage defense at 37.4.

"We've taken a business-like approach this year and it shows up more often than not at the defensive end, where the guys have a done a very good job of helping each other, covering for each other," Thompson said.

The Huskies have won seven of nine and are 12-2 at home - 5-0 at Gampel.
