KEY GAME INFORMATION
NEW ORLEANS: Key Additions: QB Brian Reader, FB R.J. Bibbs, FB Kadeem Jones, WR Shaky Smithson, DL Anthony Grady, DB Malcolm Williams.
Outlook: New head coach Dean Cokinos surely has his work cut out for him down in New Orleans, especially in a very stingy East Division. Former VooDoo coach Pat O'Hara went just 16-36 in his three seasons in New Orleans, and the team is coming off an incredibly disappointing 3-15 season. With just three victories last season, and competing against two of the more dangerous teams in the American Conference, Cokinos has a tough road ahead of him. In eight seasons, this franchise has just one winning season (11-5, first place finish in 2004), and has eight combined wins over the last two seasons. Former Barnstormers QB Brian Reader appears to be New Orleans' best option at the position this season, and the inexperienced three-year AFL signal caller doesn't have a whole lot of weapons on offense. The retirement of NG Marlon Favorite (73.5 tackles, 13.5 sacks, two forced fumbles in his three seasons with the VooDoo) doesn't help the cause, either. I just can't see this team turning their fortune around any time soon. They'll be AFL bottom feeders once again in 2015.
PHILADELPHIA: Key Additions: FB Tommy Taggart, WR Shaun Kauleinamoku, WR Dominique Curry, OL Shannon Breen, LB Beau Bell, LB Caleb Bostic.
Outlook: AFL Hall of Fame quarterback and current Soul head coach Clint Dolezel has lost a lot of talent on offense this off-season''FB Derrick Ross, WR Tiger Jones, WR V'Keon Lacey, OL Wayne Tribue, OL Jason Holman. They have made three straight playoff appearances, but may have a bit more trouble going back for a fourth-straight time this season if they don't have a few guys step up and fill the voids. Ross was shipped to Los Angeles in exchange for one of the best linebackers in the entire league, Beau Bell, who will fit in well and is an immediate upgrade on defense. Though the defense is now stronger from the Bell trade, the loss of Ross could prove devastating for QB Dan Raudabaugh, especially given his top WR Jones is gone as well. Wideout Ryan McDaniel will get his shot at becoming a No. 1 receiver in this league thanks to the loss of Jones. As for the loss of O-line depth, Dolezel is hoping that former Gladiators' lineman Shannon Breen steps in and makes an immediate impact up front. They certainly have the coaching staff and the quarterback needed to get back to the playoffs, but I can't see them de-throning the Gladiators for the East title.
