| |  | CLEVELAND: The Cleveland Gladiators will look to find some traction this season in what should be a much more competitive East Division. The Gladiators had one of the best rushing attacks in the League last year thanks in large part to their nimble-footed quarterback Chris Dieker. Dieker ranked fifth in the League in rushing yards in 2013, while the team ranked second overall. Coach Steve Thonn will have to find a replacement for fullback Derik Steiner, who was traded to the San Jose Sabercats in the offseason. Dieker will have his dynamic duo on the perimeter with Dominick Goodman and Thyron Lewis, who combined for 2,697 receiving yards and 50 touchdowns. The pair will have to step up big this year to ignite the offense and help out their quarterback. Defensively, the team should get a boost with the additions of defensive backs Chris LeFlore and Dominic Jones. LeFlore comes from Pittsburgh, where he holds the franchise record for interceptions. Jones returns to Cleveland, where he spent he spent his rookie season in 2012. Last year, Jones recorded 91.5 tackles and was named an All-Arena kick returner. Last season served as a learning curve for a very young Gladiators team which featured 18 rookies. This year, the team's youth should not be a factor as they look to compete for their first division title since 2011. | | NEW ORLEANS: Following a promising 2012 season, the New Orleans VooDoo took a step back in 2013. The team battled injuries and personnel change, resulting in a 5-13 record. After a record-setting 2012 season, quarterback Kurt Rocco was limited to 11 games in 2013. Injuries to key offensive components led the VooDoo to finish 13th in overall offense after finishing seventh in 2012. Offensive production was down across the board, including points per game, total offense, and passing yardage. To remedy that in 2014, the team scooped up New Orleans-native and LSU graduate wide receiver Skyler Green, who played with the VooDoo from 2011-12. The squad also added former LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux to challenge Rocco for playing time. The squad will receive a boost defensively, as Jack linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson returns to the team after a season in Pittsburgh, while veteran defensive back Travis Coleman was acquired from division rival Orlando in a trade. |
