| |  | NEW ORLEANS: Following a promising 2012 season, the New Orleans VooDoo took a step back in 2013. The team battled injuries and personnel change, resulting in a 5-13 record. After a record-setting 2012 season, quarterback Kurt Rocco was limited to 11 games in 2013. Injuries to key offensive components led the VooDoo to finish 13th in overall offense after finishing seventh in 2012. Offensive production was down across the board, including points per game, total offense, and passing yardage. To remedy that in 2014, the team scooped up New Orleans-native and LSU graduate wide receiver Skyler Green, who played with the VooDoo from 2011-12. The squad also added former LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux to challenge Rocco for playing time. The squad will receive a boost defensively, as Jack linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson returns to the team after a season in Pittsburgh, while veteran defensive back Travis Coleman was acquired from division rival Orlando in a trade. | | JACKSONVILLE: The Jacksonville Sharks have made plenty of noise since joining the AFL in 2010. The Sharks are the first team in AFL history to win their division each of their first four years in the League. In 2011, they reached the top of the AFL Mountain by winning ArenaBowl XXIV. The past two seasons, the Sharks have been one game away from returning to the championship, only to be stopped by the Philadelphia Soul both times. With the man who led them to ArenaBowl glory three years ago ' quarterback Aaron Garcia ' back in the fold, the Sharks have their eyes set on the top prize once again. However, this time around, their calling card may be on the other side of the ball. Last season, the Sharks boasted had one of the top defenses in the League, ranking first in sacks, fourth in scoring, and fifth in turnover margin. First Team All-Arena defensive back Terrance Smith will be returning to the squad and will receive some help with the addition of the 2012 Defensive Back of the Year, Kent Richardson, who missed all of the 2013 AFL season while playing in the NFL. On offense, Coach Les Moss will be reunited with veteran quarterback Aaron Garcia. Garcia was the first quarterback in the franchise's history and led them to a dramatic ArenaBowl victory in the 2011 season. Garcia will also be reunited with wide receiver Jeron Harvey, who caught the game-winning pass in ArenaBowl XXIV. Harvey is coming off a career year and will look to continue his success with Garcia. Garcia, who enters his AFL-record 19th season, will look for one more championship run before he rides off into the sunset. Coach Moss and his team will likely not only be favored to repeat as South Division champions for the fifth-straight year but will be on plenty of short lists for making representing the American Conference at ArenaBowl XXVII. |
