KEY GAME INFORMATION
ORLANDO: The Orlando Predators have a new coach, a offensive unit and a new attitude moving into 2013. The team added a pair of new quarterbacks and two dangerous scoring threats in receivers Josh Bush and Prechae Rodriguez. Fellow receivers T.T. Toliver and Jarvis Williams return as well. Defensive linemen Quinn Pitcock and Terrance Carter are prepped for big years, while the team has also brought in 2001 AFL Rookie of the Year R-Kal Truluck, who will return to the Arena game for the first time since 2008, and former All-Arena Jack linebacker Kelvin Morris. The Predators added a pair of young defensive backs in Dominic Jones and Gladel Brutus to a secondary that already included Simeon Castille and Travis Coleman. There is plenty of talent on the team, but how well - and how quickly - they mesh together will go far in determining whether the Predators make good on owner Brett Bouchy's 10-win guarantee.
ARIZONA: If it weren't for Aaron Garcia's last second heroics in ArenaBowl XXIV, the Arizona Rattlers would be looking at the prospects of a three-peat. When the only key loss from your championship squad is your kicker, chances are you're in pretty good shape. Playing in the League's toughest division did little to slow down Kevin Guy's defending ArenaBowl champion Rattlers' and the team looks to be just as strong coming into this season. ArenaBowl MVP Nick Davila led the team to a 13-5 record and the second-ranked offense in the AFL in 2012. Believe it or not, his receiving corps only got better for 2013. Not only will top targets Maurice Purify, Kerry Reed, Trandon Harvey and Markee White all return to the team, but the squad also added last season's two top rookie receivers in Tysson Poots and NET10 Rookie of the Year Jared Perry. A question mark still remains at fullback, as Odie Armstrong remains unassigned; however, with perhaps the deepest receiving corps in the League, the Rattlers may not be running much anyway. Reigning Offensive Lineman of the Year, Kyle Young, is also a free agent, but Second Team All-Arena center Bill Eisenhardt was acquired to soften the blow of Young's potential departure. Arizona's stingy defense will still be led by an incredibly strong pass rusher that features Cliff Dukes, Anttaj Hawthorne, Marcus Pittman and Tyre Glasper. The secondary is particularly talented as well, with holdovers Arkeith Brown, Marquis Floyd and Virgil Gray all returning to the Desert, while the team also added All-Arena defensive back Jeremy Kellem through free agency. The Rattlers will again have to successfully navigate a Murderer's Row sort of schedule in the West, but with very few holes to fill, Arizona appears to once again be in the driver's seat. Depending on how well they fair within their division, it wouldn't be shocking if we see 2013 end the same way 2012 did; with the Rattlers hoisting the Jim Foster Trophy.
