KEY GAME INFORMATION
LOS ANGELES: LAST SEASON: 46-28-8, 100 points. Finished third in Pacific Division. Won the Stanley Cup.
COACH: Darryl Sutter, 4th season with Kings, 98-57-24; 15th overall in NHL.
ADDED: RW Adam Cracknell.
LOST: D Willie Mitchell, C Colin Fraser.
PLAYER TO WATCH: D Brayden McNabb. Mitchell's departure was the only significant change to the Kings' championship roster, and they hope the bruising McNabb can make the full-time NHL leap into his spot.
OUTLOOK: This tenacious, balanced team has won two of the last three Stanley Cup titles, playing a record 64 postseason games in that stretch. There's no reason to think the Kings can't contend for three crowns in four years, an NHL feat that hasn't been accomplished since Edmonton did it in 1990.
NASHVILLE: LAST SEASON: 38-32-12, 88 points. Missed the playoffs by finishing 10th in the Western Conference.
COACH: Peter Laviolette, 1st season with Predators, 389-282-25-63 overall.
ADDED: F James Neal, F Olli Jokinen, F Mike Ribeiro, F Derek Roy.
LOST: Coach Barry Trotz, goaltenders coach Mitch Korn, F Patric Hornqvist, F Nick Spaling.
PLAYER TO WATCH: G Pekka Rinne. Even with Ribeiro needing to prove his personal issues have been handled, Rinne is the two-time Vezina Trophy finalist who anchors Nashville's defense. He only played 24 games last season after an infection in his surgically-repaired hip needed more surgery, keeping him on crutches for weeks. Rinne went 3-0-1 in his final four games and was the MVP of the World Championships.
OUTLOOK: The Predators missed the playoffs by three points with Rinne missing much of last season. Laviolette is expected to boost the Predators' offense and take advantage of the experienced forwards added during the offseason, and general manager David Poile has made it clear they must reach the playoffs.

*Kings-Predators Preview* =========================

By TOM CASTRO STATS Senior Editor

Los Angeles (11-6-4) at Nashville (13-5-2), 8:00 p.m. EDT

The Nashville Predators have relied heavily on their usual defensive intensity to key their recent surge. They might receive a good test from the Los Angeles Kings, who haven't had much trouble putting the puck in the net recently but have struggled away from home all season.

The Predators go for their third straight win in the series when they face the visiting Kings for the first time in 2014-15 on Tuesday night.

Nashville (13-5-2) has won seven of 10 despite scoring more than three goals once in that span. The Predators have given up 21 in the 10 games.

They did endure a stunning blown lead against Florida on Saturday, giving up two goals in 12 seconds in the final minute that sent the game to overtime, but Filip Forsberg's shootout goal gave them a 3-2 victory.

"I'm going to look at this game as 100 percent positive," coach Peter Laviolette said. "I'll be in here sometimes when we win and maybe not so happy, and I'll be in here sometimes when we lose and I'm really going to love the way we played. I will always focus more on the process of how we played the game and tonight, I thought the guys were dead on with what they were trying to do on the ice, and that was as consistent as I've seen it."

One of the positives was Laviolette's team holding a 50-30 shot advantage. Nashville has averaged 40.7 shots in the last three games.

"We talked a lot about our work ethic and that was really high (Saturday)," center Matt Cullen told the team's official website. " ... When you put up 50 shots you usually win the game and we ultimately did but you give (Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo) a lot of credit."

The Kings (11-6-4) turned in another big offensive effort Saturday, but an uncharacteristic defensive breakdown led to a 5-4 loss at Dallas and the end of their three-game winning streak.

Though Los Angeles outshot the Stars 41-23 and 16-2 in the third period, it couldn't overcome a 4-0 deficit early in the second. The Kings had given up two or fewer goals in seven of the eight previous contests.

"Well it could have gotten embarrassing, certainly," forward Justin Williams told the Kings' website after scoring twice to give him a five-game point streak. "We manned up and made a game of it, but it doesn't really give us much solace right now. We'll learn from that just like every opportunity lets us do."

The Kings have scored at least four goals four times in their past seven games, going 4-2-1. However, they've dropped both road games in that span and three straight away from home, giving them a 1-4-3 road mark for the season.

Los Angeles has given up 28 non-shootout goals in those eight games, and Saturday began a stretch of nine road contests in the next 12. The Kings' 1.46 goals-against average at home tops the league, but they're close to the bottom on the road at 3.50.

"We're used to playing at Staples (Center) and having a crowd behind us," center Mike Richards said. "I think when you're on the road, you need to create your own momentum. I think that's what we have to start doing."

Pekka Rinne has been in goal for all of Nashville's wins this season. He's given up one or no goals in three of his last four starts in the series.
