| SAN FRANCISCO: It's truly difficult to find bright spots on the 49ers roster, but if anyone can resurrect the glory days of QB Colin Kaepernick, it could very well end up being new head coach Chip Kelly. Otherwise, QB Blaine Gabbert could end up taking the reins behind center. He was actually decent under center last year, despite being labeled a bust for his time in Jacksonville. RB Carlos Hyde has shown flashes of brilliance when healthy, but the receiving corps might be the NFL's worst. There is some young talent on this defense, but not much should be expected from this team in 2016. | | SAN DIEGO: The defense was a disaster in San Diego last season, but things should improve despite the departure of S Eric Weddle. Third overall pick DE Joey Bosa will bring heat off the edge, and free agent CB Casey Heyward will help lock things down opposite CB Jason Verrett. Offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is back in town, which has to make QB Philip Rivers happy'the last time Whisenhunt was OC, in 2013, he had one of his best seasons. RB Melvin Gordon should also be improved this season, as he had his knee operated on in the offseason and will be running behind an improved line. |
