| |  | PHOENIX: GUARDS: This is GORAN DRAGIC's team, and he'll continue to thrive in head coach Jeff Hornacek's up-tempo system . . . ERIC BLEDSOE's contract extension took longer than planned, but both sides are happy it's done. Durability is a concern, but he's an explosive scorer who can defend, and a fringe All-Star when he's healthy . . . They do have a logjam in the backcourt with ISAIAH THOMAS coming in. Thomas would likely become a high-energy sixth man, a role he's better suited for than a starter . . . GERALD GREEN will see solid minutes considering he can play both wing spots. The question is whether the vastly improved three-point shooting was for real . . . It's a developmental season for 20-year-old rookie TYLER ENNIS . . . ARCHIE GOODWIN will need to polish both his point-guard skills and his shooting. FORWARDS: MARKIEFF MORRIS was a highly effective stretch-4 with the second unit last season, and he could be in for a full-time role now that Channing Frye is gone . . . Retained as a free agent, P.J. TUCKER will continue to be a glue guy in the starting five . . . MARCUS MORRIS has fallen behind his twin brother in the rotation. He's more of a 'tweener who doesn't quite fit in that stretch-4 role . . . Rookie T.J. WARREN fits Hornacek's system and should have his way with opposing bench players. He's a below-the-rim, mid-range shooter with limited upside, but crafty enough to pile up points against second-unit talent. He'll miss the first two weeks of the season with a fractured thumb . . . ANTHONY TOLLIVER gives the Suns some depth at the 4-spot, and he fits the system with his long-range shooting. CENTERS: MILES PLUMLEE is the best option in an underwhelming rotation in the middle. He's an energy guy who does little else . . . He lost his rookie season, and ALEX LEN is still in the developmental stage. His upside is much higher than Plumlee's, and he might get minutes because of his screening and defensive mobility. | | TORONTO: GUARDS: DeMAR DeROZAN has evolved from raw athlete into dangerous scorer. He gets to the line frequently enough that he's virtually guaranteed a 20-PPG average . . . There's some long-term worry with KYLE LOWRY. His stocky body type leaves little room for error on those contested threes he hits, and there's some question of motivation now that he's been paid. But he was so good last season, that the chances of a fall-off seem low . . . Along with being the primary back-up at point guard, GREIVIS VASQUEZ will play alongside Lowry at times to take ball-handling pressure off of him . . . LOUIS WILLIAMS should be closer to 100 percent in his second season off ACL surgery, though he's looking at a fourth guard role in Toronto. FORWARDS: AMIR JOHNSON will lead the rotation at the 4, providing rim protection, rebounding and hustle baskets . . . He's streaky, but uber dunker TERRENCE ROSS is reinventing himself as a three-point shooter . . . Stretch 4 PATRICK PATTERSON has added a corner three to supplement a below-the-rim game . . . TYLER HANSBROUGH's spastic style is a thing of beauty . . . JAMES JOHNSON returns to Toronto. He's more versatile than his doughy frame would suggest . . . Undersized big CHUCK HAYES will throw his weight around for 15 minutes a night . . . Draft night stunner BRUNO CABOCLO is likely headed for the D-League . . . Ditto DeANDRE DANIELS . . . Not too long ago multiple teams fought over LANDRY FIELDS, but those days are long gone. CENTERS: JONAS VALANCIUNAS still has to add some nuance to his game (such as making physical contact with a defender when he sets a screen) if he's going to get full-time minutes. But the big upside is still there . . . LUCAS NOGUEIRA, a 2013 first-rounder picked up from Atlanta, gives them a rim protector . . . GREG STIEMSMA was added in early September to provide depth at the center position. |

Phoenix (9-5) at Toronto (11-2), 7:30 p.m. EDT
The Toronto Raptors are brimming with confidence thanks to the best start in club history.
The Phoenix Suns are also feeling good about themselves as they look to wrap up a long trip on a winning note.
One of these high-scoring teams will have its four-game win streak snapped Monday night in this matchup of franchises on the rise.
Two seasons ago, both these clubs finished in last place in their respective divisions. Now Toronto (11-2) is atop the Eastern Conference while Phoenix (9-5) is playing well in the highly competitive West.
The Raptors made a statement by rallying from 18 down to win 110-93 at Cleveland on Saturday. They went to the foul line 42 times and are averaging an East-leading 30.0 attempts per game.
Coach Dwane Casey is doing his best to make sure his players stay grounded.
"One day you're the statue, the next day you're the pigeon," he said. "I haven't heard one person in our locker room talk about where we are in the standings."
Phoenix seeks its first five-game road win streak since Feb. 7-28, 2011. The Suns are 4-1 on this six-game trip after winning 122-96 over Philadelphia on Friday and 106-83 over Indiana the next night.
"We're getting a little bit of a rhythm," coach Jeff Hornacek said. "It's something about being on the road. These guys have come together and everybody is contributing."
The Raptors are averaging an East-leading 106.9 points and the Suns are not far behind at 105.3. Toronto has five players averaging at least 10 points and Phoenix has six, with its bench averaging a league-best 46.5 points.
Both teams got big lifts from a reserve in their Saturday wins.
Gerald Green scored a game-high 23, raising his average to 14.2 to rank among the leader leaders among reserves.
"Just because you win four games in a row doesn't mean you're guaranteed to make the playoffs so we're just trying to use this to build on," Green said.
Not far behind him among the NBA's top bench players is Lou Williams, averaging 13.4 points. Williams scored a career-high 36 against the Cavaliers, also marking the most points by a reserve on any team this season.
"Just playing with confidence, making shots early on," Williams said. "I think my teammates did a great job once they saw that I had the hot hand, they kept coming to me, just created a spark off the bench."
The Raptors, who are 3-0 against West foes, are tied for the NBA's second-best home record at 8-1.
"I can't say enough about our fans, we have the best in the league," Casey said. "Our guys know it, you can feel it."
Phoenix has won 12 of its last 13 road games against East opponents, including all four contests this season. The Suns have captured eight of their last nine visits to Toronto.
Markieff Morris totaled 41 points and 25 rebounds and shot 65.4 percent last season as Phoenix swept both meetings. The Suns bench outscored the Raptors' reserves 106-46.
