KEY GAME INFORMATION
CHICAGO: GUARDS: There's no medical reason why DERRICK ROSE can't be 100 percent healthy this year. But, as we saw in abbreviated action last season, his confidence may never come back . . . JIMMY BUTLER will still play major minutes this year, though Chicago's added depth on the wing means he's no longer a candidate to lead the league in playing time . . . KIRK HINRICH will return to a straight back-up role. His defense guarantees him minutes at both guard spots in a reserve role . . . TONY SNELL was inconsistent as a rookie, but has the defensive skill set to play solid minutes . . . AARON BROOKS gives the Bulls a more offense-heavy option to lead the second unit. He has his work cut out for him to claim the role D.J. Augustin held last season. FORWARDS: Despite the rough end to his Lakers career, PAU GASOL still has something left in the tank. He will see fewer minutes in a deep Bulls frontcourt, but he's a great fit on the offensive end . . . It seems like only a matter of time before MIKE DUNLEAVY relinquishes his starting spot. The Bulls now have plenty of shooters on this roster . . . TAJ GIBSON will reprise his sixth-man role. He'll be one of the league's top reserves; talent-wise he's a borderline All-Star . . . Rookie DOUG McDERMOTT will supplant Dunleavy once he grasps head coach Tom Thibodeau's defensive concepts. McDermott is an elite shooter who can get by defensively . . . NIKOLA MIROTIC might have some growing pains, but the Euro star can play the 3 or stretch-4 and has a very good offensive game. CENTERS: JOAKIM NOAH is an elite center, as he's outstanding defensively and has developed into one of the best passing big men in the NBA. The Bulls will do what they can to keep him fresh for the postseason, a luxury they have with Gasol and Mirotic adding depth to the frontcourt rotation. NAZR MOHAMMED is back as a big body with the ability to consistently keep the bench warm.
DENVER: GUARDS: TY LAWSON is the facilitator in Denver's up-tempo offense. Durability is a concern, as he missed 15-plus games for the third time in five career seasons during the 2013-14 campaign . . . ARRON AFFLALO is what the Nuggets need. He'll be a No. 3 scorer and, more importantly, gives them a big defensive upgrade . . . Denver can't afford to play RANDY FOYE so many minutes. He's a serviceable reserve, but they won't win games if he's playing 30-plus minutes . . . The Afflalo acquisition blocks him, but GARY HARRIS is tough-nosed on defense and a solid deep threat . . . NATE ROBINSON might unseat Foye for the sixth-man role by midseason, but first he'll have to work his way back from a torn ACL . . . Combo guard ERICK GREEN will pick up garbage-time minutes. FORWARDS: KENNETH FARIED is one of the few bright spots in Denver. He can't generate his own offense, but he's effective filling lanes and picking up garbage points in this system . . . If he's ever 100 percent healthy again, DANILO GALLINARI will be the go-to scorer on this team. But he's a question mark after missing all of last season with a torn ACL . . . WILSON CHANDLER won't be relied on as heavily this season, but he's going to get major minutes as a floor spacer who can play the 2-guard or either forward spot . . . Stretch-4 DARRELL ARTHUR is a solid rotation guy when he's shooting well, but he was laying bricks last season . . . QUINCY MILLER has intriguing athleticism, but remains a raw project . . . Even if he wasn't coming off a torn ACL, J.J. HICKSON would not make this rotation. CENTERS: TIMOFEY MOZGOV may have grabbed the lead in this center-by-committee group with his strong finish to last season . . . A stress fracture cost JaVALE McGEE his chance to secure a full-time role last season. The tantalizing, but consistently disappointing, big man should make the rotation, but has an uphill battle to earn minutes . . . JUSUF NURKIC is a high-upside project as a 7-footer with a legit NBA offensive skill set.

*Bulls-Nuggets Preview* =======================

Chicago (9-5) at Denver (6-7), 9:00 p.m. EDT

Though Derrick Rose is back for the Chicago Bulls, the last time he played on consecutive nights ended up being the last time he saw the floor in 2013-14.

It appears that Rose will be available Tuesday night to try to help the Bulls end a seven-game road slide to the surging Denver Nuggets.

Denver (6-7) last fell at home to Chicago in a 110-107 loss Feb. 8, 2006. Rose is averaging 20.7 points in his three visits, scoring 19 in a 97-87 loss Nov. 21, 2013.

The next night, Rose scored 20 in a 98-95 loss at Portland, though he suffered a right knee injury. The former league MVP did not play again last season.

Chicago (9-5) has been cautious with Rose, who returned from a four-game absence due to a hamstring injury and scored 18 points in 25 minutes in Monday's 97-95 victory at Utah. The Bulls improved to 5-1 this season with Rose, who has missed eight games.

"He's got to get out there and play, you know," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "I thought he did a lot of good things. As you can see, he's not real comfortable with the ball yet but that'll come. When Derrick strings some games together, he's going to take off. He's got to go. That's the bottom line."

Rose wasn't the only player the injury-plagued Bulls got back. Pau Gasol returned from a three-game absence because of a strained calf and finished with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Chicago remains without Kirk Hinrich, out with a chest contusion, and Taj Gibson, sidelined with a sprained left ankle.

The Bulls avoided a third straight loss and improved to 2-2 on this seven-game trip. Thibodeau said injuries haven't given the starting five enough time together to work out all the kinks.

"There is a lot of rust," Thibodeau said. "You can't build chemistry unless they're out there playing, practicing, working together."

Jimmy Butler scored a team-high 25 points and remains Chicago's leading scorer with 20.8 points per game.

Denver seeks a fifth straight win after using strong defensive efforts in two weekend victories. The Nuggets limited New Orleans to 39.7 percent shooting Friday in a 117-97 rout and held the Los Angeles Lakers to 37.1 percent in Sunday's 101-94 overtime win.

"Although we didn't start out the way we wanted to, we're starting to get it now - especially on the defensive end," coach Brian Shaw said. "The guys are buying in, we're getting the results that we're looking for, and it's starting to be fun again."

Shaw limited Monday's practice time for Ty Lawson and Arron Afflalo, who each logged a season-high 42 minutes Sunday. They combined for 33 points, with Lawson recording a season-high 16 assists.

Denver averages 26.5 foul shots and Chicago averages 25.7. The Bulls may have the edge in getting to the line Tuesday since the Nuggets commit an NBA-high 24.8 fouls per contest.

Bulls guard Aaron Brooks will play his first game against the team with which he played his final 29 games for last season after being traded by Houston to Denver on Feb. 20.
