Dodgers and Brewers meet again in Milwaukee

If it's considered a quirk in the schedule, the Milwaukee Brewers don't seem to mind.

The Brewers will host the Los Angeles Dodgers to open a four-game series on Thursday, four days after Milwaukee finished taking two of three in Los Angeles last weekend.

Milwaukee has been facing a lot of familiar opponents lately. The Brewers, who ended last season with a seven-game loss to the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, play either the Dodgers or St. Louis Cardinals in 17 of their first 26 games this season.

Milwaukee won the first two games last weekend before Los Angeles ended a six-game losing streak and avoided the sweep with a 7-1 win on Sunday.

"We won the series, so I think we did a decent job overall," Brewers manager Craig Counsell told reporters after the loss to the Dodgers on Sunday. "We've got four more (against the Dodgers) next weekend, and it'll be tough matchups."

Unlike the Cardinals, who haven't come close to containing Brewers right fielder Christian Yelich this season, the Dodgers kept the reigning NL MVP very quiet last weekend.

Yelich went 2-for-12 in the series without an RBI, walk or an extra-base hit.

Brewers catcher Yasmani Grandal has also been red-hot at the plate and knows the Los Angeles pitchers as well as anyone after catching many of them the past four seasons.

Julio Urias (0-1, 5.27 ERA) is one of the pitchers Grandal spent a lot of time with, and the 22-year-old left-hander is scheduled to start the series opener.

Urias was roughed up in the last series opener against the Brewers on Friday, giving up six runs (five earned) and six hits over five innings. Grandal hit a two-run homer off Urias and drove in another run with an infield single.

"When you miss, you pay the price," Urias said afterward.

The Dodgers have been without third baseman Justin Turner the past two games because of soreness in his hamstring. Turner is hitting .302, but has just two doubles and no homers after totaling 31 doubles and 14 home runs last season.

Dodgers first baseman Cody Bellinger was hit in the knee by a pitch from Cincinnati Reds starter Luis Castillo in the third inning of a 4-3 win on Monday and left the game. He missed Tuesday's 6-1 victory against the Reds, but was back in the starting lineup Wednesday as Los Angeles completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory.

"We're going to get on a flight now, a happy flight, and get ready to play the Brewers," said Dodgers center fielder A.J. Pollock, who hit a three-run homer in Wednesday's win.

Bellinger came into Wednesday leading the National League in batting average (.433) and on-base percentage (.513), tied for the lead in home runs with Yelich (nine) and second to Yelich in RBIs (23). He went 1-for-3 with a run on Wednesday.

The Dodgers will face right-hander Zach Davies (2-0, 1.53 ERA) for the second time in five days. He allowed one run and eight hits in the 4-1 win on Saturday night. Bellinger accounted for the only run with a solo homer in the fourth.

Davies has allowed just one earned run in his past two outings. He went 5 2/3 innings against the visiting Chicago Cubs on April 7 and held them without an earned run in the 4-2 win.
