KEY GAME INFORMATION
SAN FRANCISCO: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - From every slot in a talented, experienced rotation to the back end of the bullpen and in between, to the starting fielders and the role players on the bench, it's hard to find a member of the San Francisco Giants pleased with his 2013 season.
A year after winning the World Series, the Giants finished 10 games under .500, third in the NL West and they missed the playoffs.
''We don't even have to have the conversation, a lot of the guys know it,'' right-hander Matt Cain said. ''We didn't pitch the way that we wanted to.''
As the Giants begin a new year, they will try to keep up with the big-spending Los Angeles Dodgers and regain the grip they had on the NL West when the club won World Series championships in 2010 and `12 - even if everybody expects the Dodgers to be the team to beat.
''You do try to reflect back and try to learn from what happened last year and how you can get better,'' manager Bruce Bochy said. ''You move forward, that's what we had to do. There are some things we'll talk about in the spring, mistakes that we made last year. Also, hopefully guys come in with an attitude, that they weren't happy with what happened the year before and want to get back on track.''
Buster Posey certainly doesn't want to spend too much time thinking about last season.
''That's probably how everybody feels. There's a bad taste in a lot of guys' mouths,'' Posey said. ''We want to come out and focus on winning ballgames.''
COLORADO: DENVER (AP) - Justin Morneau wears Larry Walker's old number and is stepping in for Todd Helton.
Just so it's clear, though: He doesn't expect to be the next Walker and certainly isn't trying to make Colorado Rockies fans forget all about Helton, the everyday first baseman in the Mile High City since 1997.
Morneau can only be himself, a slick fielder who's a four-time All-Star and former AL MVP.
That's not too bad, either.
Still, the Rockies wouldn't mind if Morneau channeled a little bit of those two Colorado icons to help them get back to the postseason. But that's a lot of cleats to fill, especially when it comes to Helton, the franchise's leader in virtually every offensive category.
Morneau's goals are more modest: Slide seamlessly into to this potent lineup, one that includes good friend and reigning NL batting champion Michael Cuddyer, along with Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki.
The 32-year-old Morneau knows the comparisons to Helton are inevitable. No. 17 spent 17 seasons in purple pinstripes, endearing himself to the community. The team will honor Helton on Aug. 17 when they retire his number (although Helton's first send-off will be hard to top, when the club gave him a horse in his last home game).
''From the outside looking in, it looks like I'm coming in to replace him,'' said Morneau, who wears No. 33 because of Walker, his boyhood idol. ''But that's not my thought process. My thought process is to just come in and be me and do what I can do.''
Cuddyer thinks Morneau will fit in just fine.
''If you think about the guy you're replacing, you're already not doing yourself a good service,'' said Cuddyer, who was teammates with Morneau in Minnesota. ''He respects (Helton), but he also understands he has to go out there and be himself.''

*Giants-Rockies Preview* ========================

By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer

San Francisco (73-62) at Colorado (54-81), 4:10 p.m. EDT

Coming off a stellar homestand, the surging San Francisco Giants look to carry over that success to the road and possibly earn a bonus victory at Colorado this week.

The Giants try for a season-high seventh straight victory when they resume a previously suspended game prior to Monday's originally scheduled contest with the Rockies.

San Francisco (74-62) outscored Colorado and Milwaukee 42-11 while winning the final six on a seven-game homestand. Pablo Sandoval homered and had three RBIs while Hunter Pence added four hits as the NL wild card-leading Giants moved within 2 1/2 games of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the West with a 15-5 rout of the reeling Brewers on Sunday.

"We've turned it on at the best time of the year," said Madison Bumgarner, who earned his 16th win Sunday. "We're getting hot and everybody's doing their part."

Looking to win seven straight for the first time since an eight-game run Sept. 11-18, 2011, the Giants can match that streak by going undefeated Monday.

The first game will pick up with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning from a game tied 2-2 that was suspended by rain on May 22. Each team will use a new pitcher and lineup since the rosters have changed, and could benefit from the expanded rosters.

"That first game is going to get intriguing," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy, whose team is 2-3 at Coors Field this season.

Colorado's Michael Cuddyer was at first base and Troy Tulowitzki was scheduled to hit when play stopped, but both are currently on the disabled list.

"We're going to be able to use the September callups because if we didn't I don't think we'd have a bench for the game because of all the substitutions we have to make," Rockies manager Walt Weiss told MLB's official website.

San Francisco's Buster Posey is 1 for 3 in this contest, and batting .379 with four homers and 10 RBIs in his last eight against Colorado (54-82). Though Posey is hitless in two of three overall, he's batting .455 with 13 RBIs in his last 10 contests.

Teammate Tim Hudson (9-9, 2.90 ERA), who allowed a run and five hits in three innings before an 82-minute rain delay ended his day in the May 22 contest, takes the mound in Monday's scheduled game.

Though Hudson does not have a decision in three starts versus Colorado this season, he dropped his ERA in those games to 2.95 after yielding a solo homer to Corey Dickerson, three other hits and striking out eight in eight innings of a 4-2 victory Wednesday.

Charlie Blackmon is 5 for 13 against Hudson, who is 0-2 with a 7.05 ERA in seven starts at Coors.

Blackmon has homered in two consecutive games and has an RBI in four straight for the Rockies, who fell 6-2 at Arizona on Sunday for their fifth loss in six contests.

Making his third straight start, Franklin Morales (5-7, 5.14) is 1-0 with a 2.37 ERA in three starts against the Giants this season. He gave up a run and struck out six in six innings while opposing Hudson on Wednesday.

While Sandoval is 3 for 16 with a homer and five strikeouts against the left-hander, Pence is 6 for 14 and also homered versus Morales.

Pence is batting .404 with 11 RBIs during a 13-game hitting streak, and .457 while hitting safely in 13 straight against the Rockies.
