KEY GAME INFORMATION
CLEMSON: There will be many fresh faces for Clemson's offense that posted more than 40 points and 500 yards per game last year. Filling the huge void of departed QB Tajh Boyd and WRs Sammy Watkins and Martavis Bryant will be heady 6-foot-5 QB Cole Stoudt (72% completions, 8 TD, 1 INT career), and a highly-skilled wideouts WRs Mike Williams (20 rec, 3 TD) and Adam Humphries (483 rec yds). Top RB Rod McDowell and his 1,025 rushing yards are gone, leaving the ground game to RBs Zac Brooks (5.1 YPC), D.J. Howard (3.7 YPC) and freshman Wayne Gallman. The defensive front seven will once again look to DE Vic Beasley (13 sacks, 23 TFL) and LB Stephone Anthony (86 tackles, 4.5 sacks), while the secondary is solid, but unspectacular.
OKLAHOMA: Sophomore QB Trevor Knight (6.1 YPA, 9 TD, 5 INT) earned his starting spot with 348 passing yards and 4 TD versus Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, but doesn't have any proven receiving options after WR Sterling Shepard (603 rec yds, 7 TD). Highly-recruited Joe Mixon figures to get the bulk of the carries. OU's defensive front seven is outstanding, especially DE Charles Tapper (5.5 sacks, 9 TFL) and LBs Eric Striker (50 tackles, 6.5 sacks) and Dominique Alexander (80 tackles). The young secondary will certainly be tested.

*Oklahoma-Clemson Preview* ==========================

By MATT BECKER STATS Editor

No. 11 Oklahoma (8-4) at No. 12 Clemson (9-3), 5:30 p.m. EDT

Clemson's top-ranked defense may feel a little added pressure when it takes the field against high-powered Oklahoma in Orlando's Russell Athletic Bowl on Monday.

Not only does it face the tough task of trying to contain Sooners running back Samaje Perine, but it may have little room for error trying to compensate for the No. 18 Tigers' depleted offense.

Clemson (9-3) found success with dynamic quarterback Deshaun Watson running coordinator Chad Morris' offense, but Watson is recovering from knee surgery and Morris left earlier this month to become SMU's coach.

Watson completed 67.9 percent of passes with 14 touchdowns to two interceptions in the eight games he played - seven against bowl-bound teams - and added another five scores on the ground.

Coach Dabo Swinney promoted Tony Elliott and Jeff Scott to be co-offensive coordinators, and they're not planning on making any changes to the play-calling even though quarterback Cole Stoudt struggled at times. Stoudt saw action in every game, but in eight contests against bowl-bound teams he completed 56.6 percent of passes for 648 yards with zero touchdowns and six interceptions.

"We have full confidence in our offense and their abilities," Clemson defensive tackle Grady Jarrett said. "They just got to handle their adversity and they're going to do fine, but we're going to continue to do our part and do what we've been doing all year and try to put a strong finish on our season."

The defense has helped put the Tigers in position to record four consecutive double-digit win seasons for the first time since 1987-90.

Under coordinator Brent Venables, who coached at Oklahoma from 1999-2011, Clemson ranked first in the FBS in total defense (259.6 yards per game), third in passing (161.9) and seventh in rushing (97.7). Defensive end Vic Beasley, a first-team All-American and the ACC defensive player of the year, had 11 sacks and 18 1/2 tackles for loss.

Only one of the Tigers' past eight opponents has scored more than 20 points. The Sooners were held under 30 only once all season.

"It's awesome knowing you can go out there against the No. 1 defense and knowing that you can compete," senior tight end Blake Bell told Oklahoma's official website. "We see our offense as a top in the country too, and just to be able to go out there and them, it's going to be fun."

There were concerns over who would be healthy on offense for Oklahoma (8-4) after three of its top playmakers had late-season injuries, but coach Bob Stoops recently announced that Perine, quarterback Trevor Knight and leading receiver Sterling Shepard would all play.

The Sooners, who were No. 4 in the preseason poll but went 0-3 against Top 25 teams, were 10th in the FBS in scoring at 38.9 points per game and eighth in rushing, averaging 268.6 yards.

The run game flourished late with the freshman Perine taking a bigger role. In five games since Nov. 1, the Sooners averaged an FBS-best 375.8 rushing yards - twice eclipsing the 500-yard mark. Perine averaged 8.6 yards per carry over the span - the best for anyone with at least 50 attempts - and set a major college record by running for 427 yards against Kansas on Nov. 22.

The first-team all-Big 12 selection, eighth in the FBS with 1,579 rushing yards, is not expected to be slowed by a sprained ankle suffered in an overtime loss to Oklahoma State in the regular-season finale.

Knight will return from a three-game absence after injuring his neck against Baylor on Nov. 8. He has an 11-3 record as a starter and earned MVP honors in last season's Sugar Bowl, passing for 348 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-31 win over Alabama.

"They are very confident in the decision to let me come back and play," said Knight, who has 14 TD passes and nine interceptions. "I'm confident in coming back. They even told me I'm no different than I was before the injury."

Shepard, also a first-team all-Big 12 pick, will play after being hampered by a groin injury. He proved to be one of the best deep threats in the country with an average of 19.1 yards per reception, second-best in the FBS among those with at least 50 catches.

While the Sooners' offense is getting healthy, the defense will be without a pair of starters in linebacker Geneo Grissom and cornerback Julian Wilson.

Oklahoma has been vulnerable against the pass, allowing an average of 272.7 yards to rank 115th out of 125 FBS schools, but has the advantage of facing an unreliable quarterback.

The Tigers could have trouble moving the ball on the ground considering Oklahoma is 10th against the run at 109.6 yards per game, but Swinney has been encouraged by what he's seen from running back Wayne Gallman. The freshman ran for 191 yards in a 35-17 win over South Carolina in the regular-season finale.

"As I said at the beginning of the season, 'Y'all are going to like Wayne Gallman,'" Swinney said. "He's going to be a really good player."

Clemson won the last meeting with Oklahoma 13-6 in the 1989 Citrus Bowl, played at the same site as this game, for its first win in three all-time meetings with the Sooners.
