| AIR FORCE: Air Force made a stunning turnaround last year, fueled by a greatly improved run defense and better quarterback play'the Falcons will never put up big numbers through the air, but last year Air Force had its best season passing the ball. Air Force will continue to operate a prolific triple option rushing attack, one that was second in the Mountain West and sixth in FBS. The service academies deal with constant changeover, and Troy Calhoun and his staff could surprise again. But a second straight bowl berth is a tall order. | | NEW MEXICO: Head coach Bob Davie has collected enough talent to make a run at the Lobos' first bowl berth since 2007. With a soft early-season schedule and Colorado State and Air Force at home to end the regular season, an eight-win season is within reach if the defense shows any improvement. Defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove is installing a 3-3-5 in his second season but other than MLB Dakota Cox, who earned first-team All-MWC honors, the Lobos lack playmakers on defense. |
