KEY GAME INFORMATION
W KENTUCKY: Promoted OC Jeff Brohm replaces Bobby Petrino in the school's first C-USA season and he's happy to have back QB Brandon Doughty (2,857 pass yds, 14 TD, 14 INT) and top WR Willie McNeal (599 rec yds, 5 TD). RB Leon Allen (559 total yds, 6 TD) replaces Antonio Andrews. But only CB Cam Thomas (5 INT, 10 PD) and DE Gavin Rocker (37 tackles, 2 sacks) return on defense. DC Nick Holt will expect a lot of out JUCO transfer -- and son -- LB Nick Holt.
ILLINOIS: The Illini won only one Big Ten game last season and allowed 40.8 PPG to their conference foes, but things could get better in a hurry with Oklahoma State transfer QB Wes Lunt (8.5 YPA, 6 TD, 7 INT in 2012) running the offense this season. The strong-armed Lunt should get plenty of protection with an O-Line that returns four starters, but his receiving corps is weak, with WR Martize Barr (246 rec yds) as the top option. The ground game is in good shape though, with versatile RB Josh Ferguson (5.5 YPC, 50 rec, 1,314 total yards, 11 TD). The defense returns nearly everybody, but lost 33% of its paltry 15-sack total in Jonathan Brown. LB Mason Monheim (97 tackles) and converted safety OLB Earnest Thomas (101 tackles, 7 PD) are the keys to the defense along with CBs V'Angelo Bentley (4 TFL) and Eaton Spence (4 PD).
