| | | WISCONSIN: The Badgers have many new faces, but returning RB Melvin Gordon (1,609 rush yds, 7.8 YPC, 12 TD) could be the FBS top rusher. His running behind a fierce O-Line will take pressure off QB Joel Stave (7.4 YPA, 22 TD, 13 INT) or dual-threat QB Tanner McEvoy. Whoever wins the job will not have an experienced receiver to target. All front-seven starters are gone, including All- American LB Chris Borland, whose spot will be filled by LB Derek Landisch (33 tackles). Freshman DE Alec James is the team's best pass rusher. The secondary returns three starters, the best being CB Sojourn Shelton (4 INT). | | AUBURN: The Tigers lost their two best players in RB Tre Mason and OT Greg Robinson, but Gus Malzahn has more than enough talent to make up for it. QB Nick Marshall (1,976 pass yds, 1,068 rush yds, 26 total TD) is a rising superstar, and Malzahn plans on airing it out more this season. He has an outstanding top receiver in WR Sammie Coates (902 rec yds, 21.5 avg, 7 TD). They also have the talent to replace Mason between senior RBs Corey Grant (647 rush yds, 9.8 YPC, 6 TD) and Cameron Artis-Payne (610 rush yds, 6.7 YPC, 6 TD), and five-star recruit RB Roc Thomas. Defensively, DE Carl Lawson (4 sacks) is poised to take over for Dee Ford as Auburn's top pass-rushing threat after an impressive freshman season. LBs Cassanova McKinzy (75 tackles, 8 TFL) and Kris Frost (59 tackles, 6 TFL) lead a solid linebacking corps. |
