KEY GAME INFORMATION
FLORIDA: Last season: 27-9, advanced to NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight
Who's gone: G Kasey Hill, G/F Canyon Barry, F Devin Robinson, F Justin Leon.
Who's back: PG Chris Chiozza, who hit a running 3-pointer at the buzzer to stun Wisconsin in the Sweet 16. The senior will be the team's primary ball-handler for the first time in his career. He's joined in the backcourt by junior G KeVaughn Allen, the team's leading scorer (14 ppg) last season. F Keith Stone and F/C Kevarrius Hayes are expected to make significant jumps and will be counted on to handle the post until senior C John Egbunu returns from reconstructive knee surgery in January.
Who's new: Former Virginia Tech G Jalen Hudson and former Arizona State/Rice G Egor Koulechov. The 6-foot-6 Hudson averaged 8.4 points a game as a sophomore with the Hokies. He sat out last year because of NCAA transfer rules and looked like Florida's best scorer at times in practice. The 6-5 Koulechov is a graduate transfer who averaged 18.2 points a game as a junior at Rice last year and shot 47 percent from 3-point range. He made at least 80 3-pointers in each of the last two seasons and is expected to give Florida its best outside threat in several years. Freshman class includes PG Mike Okauru, F Chase Johnson, F Deaundrae Ballard and F/C Isaiah Stokes.
The Skinny: The Gators are widely considered a top-10 team and expected to make another deep run in the NCAA Tournament. They should get a decent gauge of where they're at in the Phil Knight Invitational later this month. The tournament includes Stanford, Ohio State, Gonzaga, Duke and Butler.
TENNESSEE: Last season: 16-16, hasn't reached NCAA Tournament since 2014.
Who's gone: G Robert Hubbs III, G Kwe Parker (transfer to Cape Fear Community College), G Shembari Phillips (transfer to Georgia Tech).
Who's back: F Grant Williams earned freshman all-SEC honors from the league's coaches and is the Vols' top returning scorer (12.6) and rebounder (5.9); F Admiral Schofield averaged 8.2 points and 4.4 rebounds last season; G Jordan Bone (7.2 ppg), G Lamonte' Turner (8.2) and G Jordan Bowden (7.9) all had their moments last season; F Kyle Alexander has started 34 games over the last two years.
Who's new: G James Daniel III averaged 27.1 points per game for Howard in 2015-16 to lead all Division I scorers before playing just two games last season due to an ankle injury; G Chris Darrington averaged 20.7 points and 5.1 assists last season at Vincennes (Ind.); F Derrick Walker (6-8), F Zach Kent (6-foot-10) and F Yves Pons (6-5) are freshmen who should add size and athleticism to Tennessee's frontcourt.
The Skinny: Tennessee was in NCAA Tournament contention last season before fading down the stretch. The Vols are hoping their improved depth will help them avoid a similar fate this year. If Tennessee gets more consistent production from its backcourt and Williams builds off his impressive freshman season, the Vols have a chance to earn the NCAA or NIT bid that has eluded them the last three years.

No. 19 Tennessee faces key matchup with Florida

After Florida failed to hold another late lead in a loss at Vanderbilt, Gators coach Mike White issued a dire warning for his team.

"I hope it does affect us mentally," White said after the Vanderbilt loss. "How many games do we have left? Four? We have to figure it out or it's not going to end well."

That crucial four-game closing stretch for the Gators begins Wednesday at No. 19 Tennessee, which also is coming off an SEC loss.

Florida (17-10, 8-6 SEC) has dropped two in a row and four of six overall. The Gators squandered a six-point lead with 25 seconds to play and eventually lost to Georgia in overtime last week. They were up 11 on Vanderbilt with 14 minutes to Saturday, but went cold down the stretch and lost 71-68 to the Commodores.

"These are things we're taught to do. We do it for 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 28 minutes, then for some reason, we stop doing it," senior guard Egor Koulechov said after the Vanderbilt game.

The Vols (19-7, 9-5 SEC) are trying to adjust to having the target on their backs as one of the top teams in the SEC. Tennessee has lost two of three, including a 73-62 loss at Georgia on Saturday. Coach Rick Barnes' team trails first-place Auburn by two games in the conference standings with four games remaining.

"We're still one of the younger teams in the country in a position no one thought they would be in," Barnes told reporters Monday. "We just knew as a team, as a program, that we (were) gonna go in and try to compete every single day. We've done that. But now, these situations come up. They're realizing that it's more difficult than you might think. That's why you have great respect for those teams that year in and year out are at the top, because it's not easy."

This is the first and only regular-season meeting between the two SEC rivals this year. The Gators won last year's meeting 83-70 in Gainesville, Fla. KeVaughn Allen had 23 points for Florida in the win.

Allen is one of four Gators averaging in double figures in scoring this season. Jalen Hudson and Koulechov are each averaging more than 14 points per game. But too often, White says, Florida has struggled to convert good opportunities.

"Our inefficiencies at the rim continue to haunt us," White said after the Vanderbilt loss. "We had a bunch of looks in the paint. If you're going to steal one on the road, we got to make a layup. We got to make a 5-footer through a little bit of contact. You have to make the majority of them, and we made hardly any of them."

Sophomore forward Grant Williams leads Tennessee is scoring (15.7 ppg) and is second in rebounding (5.9 rpg.). Williams, who keys the Vols' inside-out attack, was held to a season-low five points on one-of-eight shooting in the loss to Georgia.

"I just think that he's gotta realize that this time of year that everything goes up and keeps climbing," Barnes said of Williams. "The thermometer keeps going up, and you've gotta be able to do that as a player. Knowing he is gonna be game-planned for, which he's done."
